Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team as Special Needs Transport Assistants in Hammersmith. This vital role involves providing safe and supportive transportation for children and adults with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND), ensuring their journey to and from schools, colleges, and day centers is comfortable and secure. The position operates on a split-shift basis, ideal for those seeking flexible hours around family commitments, offering morning and afternoon runs. You will be an essential part of our service, making a real difference in the lives of our passengers and their families.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport passengers with special needs to and from designated locations in Hammersmith and surrounding areas.
- Assist passengers with boarding and alighting the vehicle, including those using wheelchairs or requiring mobility support.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers during transit, adhering to company policies and road safety regulations.
- Maintain a clean and tidy vehicle interior, conducting basic checks as required.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with passengers, parents/guardians, school staff, and colleagues.
- Complete daily records and reports accurately, including passenger manifests and incident reports.
- Undertake daily vehicle checks and report any defects or maintenance requirements promptly.
Required Skills
- Full, clean UK driving license (Category B).
- Experience driving light commercial vehicles or minibuses (advantageous but not essential).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient and empathetic approach.
- Ability to work split shifts (typically morning and afternoon runs) to accommodate passenger schedules.
- Demonstrable commitment to passenger safety and welfare.
- Successful completion of an enhanced DBS check (company will facilitate application).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with individuals with special educational needs or disabilities.
- First Aid certification or willingness to obtain one.
- MIDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training.
- Local knowledge of Hammersmith and surrounding areas.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for vehicle checks.
