Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and organized Student Mailroom Clerk to join our administrative team. This entry-level position is perfect for a student looking to gain valuable work experience in a fast-paced and supportive university environment. The Mailroom Clerk will be responsible for the efficient handling of incoming and outgoing mail, packages, and deliveries for the university community. This role requires attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. While primarily based in Pasco, this role supports the broader WSU Tri-Cities operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Sort and distribute incoming mail, packages, and deliveries to various departments and staff members accurately and efficiently.
- Process outgoing mail, including weighing, applying postage, and preparing items for shipping.
- Maintain organized mailroom records and logs of incoming/outgoing correspondence and packages.
- Operate mailroom equipment such as postage meters, scales, and sorting machines.
- Assist with inventory of mailroom supplies and notify supervisor when reordering is necessary.
- Provide friendly and professional service to faculty, staff, and students regarding mailroom inquiries.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Ensure the mailroom is kept clean, tidy, and well-organized.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled as a student at an accredited institution.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend English instructions.
- Basic computer proficiency for record-keeping and email communication.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to lift and move packages up to 50 lbs with or without accommodation.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a mailroom or office support role.
- Familiarity with various shipping carriers and methods (USPS, FedEx, UPS).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver’s license (for potential campus-to-campus deliveries).
