Job Description

Stantec is seeking a passionate and skilled Urban Planner / Town Planner to join our dynamic team in Orillia, Ontario. You will work on a diverse range of projects, from master-planned communities to policy frameworks, contributing to projects that enhance liveability and sustainability across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research and analysis on demographic trends, land use, zoning bylaws, and environmental factors to inform planning decisions.
  • Prepare and review planning applications, including official plan amendments, zoning bylaw amendments, and subdivision/condominium applications.
  • Develop comprehensive planning reports, policy documents, and urban design guidelines.
  • Engage in public consultation processes, including preparing materials, facilitating meetings, and addressing stakeholder feedback.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (engineers, landscape architects, environmental scientists) to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Provide expert planning advice to clients, municipal staff, and elected officials.
  • Ensure projects comply with relevant provincial and municipal planning legislation and policies.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, or a closely related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in urban or town planning, preferably within a consulting or municipal environment.
  • Strong understanding of the Ontario Planning Act and related legislation, policies, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Eligibility for membership with the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) and Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Professional Planner (RPP) or eligibility for RPP designation.
  • Experience with urban design principles and graphic communication software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite).
  • Proven track record of successful project management in a planning context.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and understanding of Indigenous planning principles.
