Job Description
Are you passionate about animals and eager to start a career in veterinary care? Pembina Veterinary Hospital is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Vet Clinic Helper to join our team. This entry-level position offers comprehensive on-the-job animal handling training, making it perfect for individuals with no prior professional experience in a vet clinic but a strong desire to learn and contribute. You will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean and safe environment for our animal patients and assisting our veterinary staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with animal restraint and handling during examinations and procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of examination rooms, kennels, treatment areas, and common spaces.
- Feed, water, and walk animals under supervision, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
- Monitor animals for any signs of distress or changes in condition and report to senior staff.
- Clean and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment.
- Restock supplies in examination rooms and treatment areas.
- Assist with laundry, waste disposal, and other general clinic maintenance tasks.
- Provide compassionate care and attention to all animal patients.
Required Skills
- Genuine love for animals and a strong desire to work with them.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and learn quickly.
- Reliable, punctual, and a strong work ethic.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Physical stamina to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Comfortable working in an environment with various animal species and potential exposure to bodily fluids.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience volunteering or working with animals (e.g., shelters, pet sitting, farm work).
- Basic computer literacy.
