Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as an Entry-Level Weigh Station Inspector. This critical role involves enforcing state and federal regulations related to commercial vehicle weight, dimensions, and safety. As an entry-level position, comprehensive training will be provided to equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel. You will be responsible for conducting inspections at weigh stations, ensuring compliance, and contributing to the overall safety of Idaho’s roadways.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor weigh scales to determine vehicle weight and dimensions.
  • Inspect commercial vehicles for compliance with state and federal laws regarding weight, size, and safety equipment.
  • Identify and document violations, issuing citations or warnings as appropriate.
  • Conduct roadside inspections as needed, ensuring vehicles meet operational standards.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, violations, and enforcement actions.
  • Provide clear and concise information to commercial drivers regarding regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and other state departments on enforcement activities.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development programs.

Required Skills

  • Ability to learn and apply complex state and federal regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and observational skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer proficiency for record keeping.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks including standing, walking, bending, and lifting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Experience in a regulatory, enforcement, or public safety role (even if volunteer or entry-level).
  • Familiarity with commercial vehicle operations or transportation industry.
  • Ability to de-escalate potentially confrontational situations.
