Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Wind Turbine Component Driver with an advanced logistics focus to join our dynamic team in Long Beach, CA. This critical role involves the safe and efficient transportation of oversized and specialized wind turbine components, including blades, nacelles, and tower sections, across various terrains and challenging routes. The ideal candidate will possess not only exceptional driving abilities and a clean safety record but also a keen understanding of complex logistics, route planning, permitting, and compliance with all relevant transportation regulations. This position demands precision, problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to project timelines and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate specialized heavy haul trucks and trailers to transport oversized wind turbine components.
- Plan and execute routes in conjunction with logistics teams, considering road restrictions, permits, and safety regulations.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and cargo, ensuring securement and compliance.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, delivery records, and all required documentation, including permits and safety reports.
- Communicate effectively with escort drivers, project managers, clients, and local authorities.
- Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT), state, and company safety regulations and procedures.
- Participate in safety meetings and ongoing training programs.
- Perform minor mechanical repairs and maintenance as needed during transport.
- Adapt to changing schedules, weather conditions, and unexpected logistical challenges.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with clean driving record.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy haul transportation, specifically with oversized or specialized loads.
- Proven experience with wind turbine component transport or similar large-scale industrial equipment.
- Thorough knowledge of DOT regulations, state transportation laws, and permitting requirements for oversized loads.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, GPS, and route plans accurately.
- Strong spatial awareness and problem-solving skills for navigating challenging routes and tight spaces.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a larger project team.
- Flexibility to travel extensively and work irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specialized hydraulic steering trailers or multi-axle combinations.
- Certifications in load securement, heavy equipment operation, or advanced safety training.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience with heavy vehicle maintenance.
- Proficiency with transportation management software and electronic logging devices (ELDs).
- Knowledge of wind energy project sites and logistics unique to the renewable energy sector.
