Job Description

Join the University of Colorado Boulder as an Archaeological/Paleontological Cross-Trainee and embark on an exciting journey into the world of field research. You will work alongside experienced scientists, participate in diverse field expeditions, and contribute to critical data collection and analysis. Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in archaeological and paleontological field excavations and surveys, including site setup and breakdown.
  • Learn and apply proper techniques for artifact and fossil recovery, documentation, and bagging.
  • Assist with mapping, photography, and recording of contextual data at field sites.
  • Conduct basic laboratory tasks such as cleaning, cataloging, and preliminary analysis of specimens and artifacts.
  • Maintain field equipment, ensure proper storage, and assist with inventory.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols, ethical guidelines, and preservation standards in the field and lab.
  • Contribute to daily field reports and data entry.
  • Engage in continuous learning regarding relevant scientific methods and theories.

Required Skills

  • Strong passion for archaeology, paleontology, and scientific discovery.
  • Excellent attention to detail and observational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • High level of physical fitness and stamina for demanding field conditions (e.g., walking long distances, lifting moderate weights, working in varied climates).

Preferred Qualifications

  • First Aid/CPR certification.
