Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Music Audition Coach specializing in high school and college preparation. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience guiding aspiring musicians through the rigorous audition process for esteemed music programs and conservatories. This role requires a deep understanding of various musical disciplines, audition requirements, performance psychology, and curriculum development for comprehensive audition readiness. You will work one-on-one and in small groups with talented high school students, helping them refine their technical skills, interpretative abilities, and stage presence to maximize their chances of acceptance into top-tier college music programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop individualized audition preparation plans for students, tailored to their specific instruments/voice and target institutions.
- Provide expert coaching in repertoire selection, technical proficiency, sight-reading, ear training, and music theory relevant to auditions.
- Conduct mock auditions, offering constructive feedback and strategies for performance anxiety management.
- Guide students through the application process, including essay review and interview preparation.
- Collaborate with academic advisors and parents to ensure a holistic approach to student development.
- Stay current with audition requirements, trends, and best practices of leading music schools and conservatories.
- Organize and facilitate workshops or masterclasses on audition techniques and strategies.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience coaching students for music auditions, specifically high school to college level.
- Bachelor's degree in Music Performance, Music Education, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Expertise in at least one primary instrument/voice discipline (e.g., piano, strings, winds, brass, voice).
- Strong understanding of music theory, harmony, counterpoint, and music history.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and motivational skills.
- Demonstrated success in helping students gain admission to reputable music programs.
- Ability to work effectively with students of diverse backgrounds and skill levels.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in a music-related discipline.
- Experience as an adjudicator or on an admissions committee for a music program.
- Proficiency in multiple instruments or vocal styles.
- Familiarity with various music education pedagogies.
- Network of contacts within college music programs and conservatories.
