Job Description
Are you passionate about pets and eager to start a rewarding career in animal care? Pet Valu is seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as a Pet Grooming Offsider. This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity to learn the art and science of professional pet grooming from experienced groomers, with all training provided and paid. You’ll work closely with our senior groomers, assisting with various tasks and gaining hands-on experience in a supportive and fun environment. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior pet groomers with pre-grooming tasks such as bathing, drying, and brushing pets.
- Maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of grooming stations, tools, and general work areas.
- Comfort and safely handle pets of all sizes and temperaments, ensuring their well-being throughout the grooming process.
- Learn and practice basic grooming techniques under direct supervision.
- Support front desk operations, including greeting customers, answering phones, and scheduling appointments when needed.
- Monitor pets for any signs of distress or health concerns and report them to the senior groomer immediately.
- Help manage grooming supplies and ensure all necessary equipment is available and in good working order.
Required Skills
- A genuine passion for animals and their welfare.
- Ability to learn quickly and follow detailed instructions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical stamina to handle pets, lift up to 50 lbs, and stand for extended periods.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Comfortable working with various dog and cat breeds, including those with challenging temperaments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with animal handling (e.g., volunteer work at a shelter, pet sitting, dog walking).
- Basic understanding of pet behavior and safety protocols.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
