Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and service-oriented individual to join our team as a Museum Guest Services professional with a focus on enhancing the cultural experience for all visitors. In this vital role, you will be the first point of contact for guests, providing exceptional service, information, and a welcoming atmosphere. You will play a crucial part in ensuring every visitor has a memorable and enriching experience at the BYU Museum of Art, connecting them with our collections and programs. This position requires a passion for art and culture, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to guest satisfaction. You will be instrumental in making our museum a friendly and accessible space for diverse audiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Warmly greet and welcome all museum visitors, providing a positive first impression.
- Process admissions, memberships, and program registrations accurately using our point-of-sale system.
- Provide comprehensive information about current exhibitions, permanent collections, public programs, and facilities.
- Assist visitors with wayfinding, accessibility needs, and general inquiries.
- Handle visitor feedback, concerns, and complaints with professionalism and a problem-solving attitude.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the front desk and lobby areas.
- Assist with monitoring visitor flow and crowd management during peak times or special events.
- Process retail sales in the museum store, if applicable.
- Collaborate with other museum departments to ensure a cohesive and high-quality visitor experience.
- Stay informed about museum events, exhibitions, and policies to provide accurate and up-to-date information.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in customer service or a guest-facing role (minimum 1 year).
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a calm demeanor under pressure.
- Proficiency with basic computer applications and point-of-sale systems.
- A genuine interest in art, culture, and educational institutions.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Hospitality, or a related field.
- Previous experience working in a museum, gallery, or cultural institution.
- Fluency in a second language (especially Spanish, given the local demographics).
- Knowledge of local cultural attractions and community resources.
- Experience with visitor management software or CRM systems.
