Job Description

As a Prior Authorization Specialist at CVS Health, you will play a crucial role in ensuring patients receive timely access to necessary medications and treatments. This is a 100% remote position, allowing you to work from the comfort of your home while making a significant impact on patient care. You will be responsible for processing prior authorization requests, communicating with healthcare providers and insurance companies, and upholding compliance with all regulatory guidelines. The ideal candidate will possess strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a foundational understanding of pharmacy procedures and medical terminology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process prior authorization requests accurately and efficiently according to established guidelines and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with prescribers, pharmacies, and insurance carriers to obtain necessary information or clarify details.
  • Review patient medical records and insurance policies to determine eligibility for prescribed medications/services.
  • Resolve issues related to prior authorization denials or appeals, documenting all actions thoroughly.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborate with pharmacists and other healthcare professionals to streamline the prior authorization process.
  • Stay updated on changes in medication guidelines, insurance policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform data entry and maintain accurate records within the electronic health record (EHR) system.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a pharmacy setting or healthcare administrative role.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology and pharmaceutical knowledge.
  • Strong understanding of prior authorization processes and insurance verification.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment.
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience with electronic health records (EHR) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification.
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a related healthcare field.
  • Experience with specific prior authorization software platforms.
  • Knowledge of various insurance plans and formularies.
