Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Dockworker to join our FedEx Freight team in Columbus, Ohio, for an afternoon shift. This is a full-time position offering a consistent schedule with no weekend work, allowing you to maintain a healthy work-life balance. As a Dockworker, you will play a crucial role in our operation, ensuring the safe and efficient movement of freight within our terminal. Key Responsibilities
- Load and unload freight manually or using freight handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
- Sort, stack, and stage freight in a precise and organized manner, adhering to all safety protocols and company standards.
- Verify freight counts and check for damage, reporting any discrepancies or issues promptly.
- Operate powered industrial trucks (PIT) safely and efficiently, once certified, to move freight on the dock.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment, ensuring compliance with all OSHA regulations and company policies.
- Collaborate effectively with team members and supervisors to meet daily operational goals and ensure timely freight movement.
- Complete necessary paperwork and documentation accurately.
Required Skills
- Ability to frequently lift, push, pull, and carry freight weighing 50 lbs or more.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
- Commitment to safety procedures and practices.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a dock or warehouse environment.
- Prior experience operating a forklift or other freight handling equipment.
- High School Diploma or GED.
