Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Pediatric Pharmacy Technician to join our specialized team within a vibrant children’s hospital environment in Evanston. In this crucial role, you will support our pharmacists in providing exceptional pharmaceutical care to our youngest patients, ensuring the safe and accurate preparation and distribution of medications. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute directly to the well-being of children and their families, working within a state-of-the-art facility focused on pediatric health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and compound medications, including sterile and non-sterile products, specifically tailored for pediatric patients.
  • Accurately dispense prescribed medications, ensuring correct dosage, labeling, and timely delivery to patient care areas.
  • Maintain inventory of pharmaceutical supplies, perform regular stock checks, and assist with ordering and receiving medications.
  • Operate and maintain pharmacy automation systems, including dispensing robots and automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs).
  • Assist pharmacists with medication reconciliation, patient education materials, and medication therapy management.
  • Monitor and manage drug expiration dates and assist in maintaining a clean and organized pharmacy workspace.
  • Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and state/federal regulations regarding pharmacy practice and patient safety.
  • Collaborate effectively with pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.

Required Skills

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification by the PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board).
  • Current Illinois Pharmacy Technician License.
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a hospital or clinical setting.
  • Proficiency in basic pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Pharmacy Technology or related field.
  • Experience specifically in a pediatric or children's hospital pharmacy.
  • Familiarity with hospital information systems (e.g., Epic) and pharmacy management software.
  • Knowledge of sterile compounding techniques and USP <797>/<800> guidelines.
