Job Description
We are seeking a highly organized and compassionate Hospital Admitting Nurse to join our dynamic team. This unique role blends critical administrative duties with essential clinical responsibilities, ensuring a smooth and efficient patient admission process while also providing initial clinical assessment and support. The ideal candidate will be adept at managing paperwork, communicating effectively with patients and families, and performing basic nursing duties upon arrival. You will be the first clinical point of contact for many patients, setting the tone for their hospital experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate efficient and accurate patient admission processes, including demographic and insurance information collection.
- Conduct initial patient interviews to gather essential medical history and current symptoms.
- Perform preliminary clinical assessments, including vital signs, basic physical observations, and initial pain screenings.
- Liaise with physicians, nursing staff, and other departments to ensure timely bed placement and appropriate patient care hand-offs.
- Educate patients and families on hospital policies, procedures, and their rights.
- Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Address patient and family concerns with empathy and professionalism, escalating issues as necessary.
- Process admission consents and other required legal documentation.
- Assist with patient orientation to their rooms and hospital environment.
- Collaborate with financial counselors to discuss patient insurance and payment options.
- Ensure a welcoming and reassuring environment for all new admissions.
Required Skills
- Current RN license in the state of Mississippi
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, preferably in an acute care or emergency setting
- Strong administrative and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Ability to perform basic clinical assessments and vital sign measurements
- Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment
- Sound judgment and problem-solving capabilities
- BLS certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Experience in patient admissions or patient access roles
- ACLS certification
