Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Pinterest Digital Archivist with a strong focus on historical data to join our growing team in Richmond, BC. This critical role involves the long-term preservation, organization, and accessibility of Pinterest’s historical digital assets. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing archival strategies for visual data, metadata, and user-generated content over time, ensuring that the rich history of inspiration on Pinterest is meticulously cataloged and preserved for research, platform evolution, and future cultural understanding. This is a unique opportunity to shape the archival practices for one of the world’s largest visual discovery platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement comprehensive digital preservation strategies for Pinterest's historical data assets, including visual content, metadata, and user interactions.
  • Develop and maintain robust archival systems and databases to ensure the integrity, authenticity, and accessibility of historical digital records.
  • Perform regular audits and quality control checks on archived data, identifying and addressing any potential preservation risks or data degradation issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and legal teams to integrate archival best practices into data management workflows and new product development.
  • Create detailed metadata schemas and documentation standards for historical assets, ensuring consistency and searchability.
  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies and methodologies in digital preservation and archival science.
  • Respond to internal requests for historical data, providing accurate and timely access while adhering to privacy and compliance regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of internal policies and guidelines for digital archiving and data retention.
  • Educate and train internal stakeholders on archival principles and data handling best practices.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in digital archiving, data management, or library science, with a focus on large-scale digital collections.
  • Demonstrable expertise in digital preservation standards, methodologies, and tools (e.g., OAIS, PREMIS, FADGI).
  • Strong understanding of metadata standards and best practices (e.g., Dublin Core, MODS, EAD).
  • Proficiency with database management systems and experience working with large datasets.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property rights, data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and ethical considerations in digital archiving.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical and non-technical audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS), Archival Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience with distributed systems, cloud storage (AWS, GCP, Azure), or large-scale data platforms.
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, R) for data manipulation and automation.
  • Familiarity with visual content analysis, image processing, or media asset management systems.
  • Experience in a fast-paced technology company or a similar data-intensive environment.
  • Published research or active participation in the digital archiving community.
