Job Description
Swift Transportation is seeking dedicated and experienced Over-The-Road (OTR) Reefer Drivers to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial for transporting temperature-sensitive goods across the country, ensuring their integrity from pickup to delivery. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a tractor-trailer combination with a refrigerated unit (reefer) on long-haul routes across state lines.
- Manage and monitor reefer unit temperatures to ensure compliance with product specifications and maintain cargo integrity.
- Perform pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicle systems, equipment, and accessories.
- Properly secure freight and verify accuracy of cargo against shipping documents.
- Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, company policies, and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate electronic logs (ELDs) and complete all necessary paperwork.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, and other team members regarding load status, delays, and potential issues.
- Handle pickups and deliveries in a timely and professional manner.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL A)
- Minimum of 2 years verifiable OTR driving experience
- Proven experience operating refrigerated trailers (reefers)
- Clean driving record (MVR)
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations and safety protocols
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively on the road
Preferred Qualifications
- Hazardous Materials (HazMat) endorsement (not required for all reefer loads, but a plus)
- Tanker endorsement
- Experience with various reefer unit types and temperature control systems
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
