Job Description
The Alameda County Public Defender’s Office seeks a diligent and compassionate Public Defender’s Office Receptionist to join our dedicated team. This entry-level, full-time position is critical to the smooth operation of our office, serving as the first point of contact for clients, legal professionals, and the general public. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, a professional demeanor, and a commitment to supporting our mission of justice. You will manage incoming calls, greet visitors, handle mail, and provide administrative support in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Warmly greet and assist all visitors, including clients, attorneys, and community members, directing them to the appropriate staff or department.
- Manage a multi-line phone system, directing calls, taking messages, and providing general information with professionalism and discretion.
- Schedule and confirm appointments for clients and attorneys.
- Receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail and packages; prepare outgoing mail.
- Maintain a tidy and organized reception area.
- Assist with basic administrative tasks such as filing, scanning, photocopying, and data entry.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with the utmost discretion and professionalism.
- Support office staff with various clerical duties as needed.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a professional and compassionate approach.
- Proficiency in basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to manage a multi-line phone system effectively.

Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a front desk, administrative, or customer service role.
