Job Description
Epic Games is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Game Performance Analyst with a strong focus on hardware and Frames Per Second (FPS) optimization to join our team in Uptown Charlotte. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in analyzing game performance across various hardware configurations, identifying bottlenecks, and collaborating with engineering teams to ensure our games run smoothly and efficiently. Your expertise will directly impact the player experience, ensuring high fidelity and fluid gameplay. This position requires a deep understanding of PC hardware, game engine architecture, and performance profiling tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive performance analysis on game titles across diverse hardware specifications and platforms.
- Monitor and analyze in-game FPS, latency, and resource utilization (CPU, GPU, memory, disk I/O).
- Identify and diagnose performance bottlenecks related to rendering, physics, AI, networking, and hardware interactions.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, QA, and design teams to propose and implement optimization strategies.
- Develop and maintain performance testing methodologies, tools, and benchmarks.
- Generate detailed performance reports and present findings to stakeholders.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest hardware advancements, industry best practices, and performance optimization techniques.
- Participate in code reviews and provide feedback from a performance perspective.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in game performance analysis or a related field.
- Strong understanding of PC hardware components (CPU, GPU, RAM, storage) and their impact on game performance.
- Proficiency with performance profiling tools (e.g., PIX, RenderDoc, Intel VTune, Unreal Insights).
- Solid knowledge of game engine architectures (preferably Unreal Engine) and rendering pipelines.
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for data analysis and automation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and concisely.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Game Development, or a related technical field.
- Experience with C++ programming.
- Familiarity with various operating systems (Windows, Linux, console platforms).
- Knowledge of GPU performance metrics and debugging techniques.
- Prior experience working on AAA game titles.
- Understanding of statistical analysis and data visualization.
