Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Metadata Analyst with a strong focus on Machine Learning to join our remote team. In this role, you will be instrumental in defining, structuring, and maintaining the metadata frameworks that power Google’s cutting-edge AI and ML initiatives. You will work closely with data scientists, engineers, and product managers to ensure the quality, consistency, and usability of our vast datasets, directly impacting the performance and accuracy of our machine learning models. This is a crucial position for anyone passionate about the intersection of data governance, machine learning, and large-scale data systems. This position is 100% remote, allowing you to work from your home office in Exeter or anywhere within the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain metadata schemas and standards for ML datasets and models.
  • Collaborate with ML engineers and data scientists to understand data requirements and translate them into robust metadata solutions.
  • Perform metadata analysis, profiling, and quality checks to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Develop and enforce data governance policies specific to machine learning pipelines.
  • Document metadata definitions, data lineage, and data usage policies.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of automated metadata management tools and processes.
  • Provide expert guidance on metadata best practices to various teams across the organization.
  • Monitor and report on metadata quality metrics and propose corrective actions.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Metadata Analyst, Data Analyst, or similar role with a focus on large datasets.
  • Strong understanding of metadata management principles, data governance, and data quality.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Familiarity with machine learning concepts, data preprocessing, and model lifecycle.
  • Experience with data modeling and schema design.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure) and their data services.
  • Familiarity with data catalog tools and metadata repositories.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for data manipulation and automation.
  • Understanding of MLOps principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
