Job Description
Are you ready to join a dynamic team in a fast-paced, heavy industrial environment? FedEx Freight is seeking a dedicated and physically capable Material Handler with a strong focus on industrial operations for our Oakland facility. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of freight within our terminal, ensuring timely processing and delivery. This position demands attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to operate various material handling equipment in a rigorous setting. Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently load and unload freight from trailers using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment.
- Sort, stack, and verify freight against manifests, ensuring accuracy of shipments.
- Inspect freight for damage and report any discrepancies or issues immediately.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment within the terminal and dock areas.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
- Operate material handling equipment in a safe and skilled manner, performing pre-shift inspections.
- Collaborate with team members to optimize workflow and meet daily operational targets.
- Assist with other terminal duties as required, contributing to overall operational success.
Required Skills
- Ability to frequently lift, push, and pull freight weighing up to 75 lbs individually and more with assistance.
- Physical stamina to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb for extended periods.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills to read labels, manifests, and count freight accurately.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures and protocols.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced industrial environment.
- Willingness to learn and operate various types of material handling equipment.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (1-2 years) in a warehouse, logistics, or heavy industrial setting.
- Prior experience operating forklifts or other powered industrial trucks.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Current Forklift Operator certification.
