Job Description
The Ohio State University Libraries is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated WFH Cataloguing Assistant to join our Digital Library team. This fully remote position plays a crucial role in ensuring the discoverability and accessibility of our extensive digital collections. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for accuracy, a strong understanding of cataloguing principles, and a passion for organizing information in a digital environment. You will contribute to the ongoing development and maintenance of our digital catalogue, helping researchers and students worldwide connect with valuable resources from the comfort of your home. Key Responsibilities
- Perform original and copy cataloguing of digital resources according to established national and local standards (e.g., RDA, MARC, Dublin Core).
- Create and edit metadata for various digital formats, including images, texts, audio, and video.
- Ensure data quality and consistency across all cataloguing records.
- Collaborate with librarians and other staff to resolve cataloguing discrepancies and improve workflows.
- Contribute to the development and documentation of cataloguing policies and procedures for digital materials.
- Participate in special projects related to digital collection development and enhancement.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in cataloguing standards such as RDA, MARC21, and Dublin Core.
- Experience with integrated library systems (ILS) or content management systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a remote team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Information Science, Humanities, or a related field.
- Familiarity with linked data principles and applications.
- Experience with specific metadata schema relevant to digital collections (e.g., MODS, EAD).
- Previous experience in an academic library setting, particularly with digital collections.
