Job Description
Join The Field Museum team as a Fossil Lab Technician and embark on an exciting career path in paleontology! No prior experience in fossil preparation is required as comprehensive precision tool training will be provided. In this role, you will work hands-on with invaluable fossil specimens, contributing directly to scientific research and the preservation of Earth’s ancient history. Key Responsibilities
- Perform meticulous cleaning, preparation, and stabilization of fossil specimens using a variety of precision tools, including air scribes and micro-blasters.
- Document all preparation procedures, specimen data, and condition reports accurately following established protocols.
- Assist in the organization, inventory, and curation of fossil collections.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment, adhering to all safety guidelines.
- Learn and apply advanced fossil preparation techniques under the guidance of senior technicians and paleontologists.
- Collaborate with research staff on various paleontological projects as needed.
- Assist with basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Handle delicate and irreplaceable specimens with utmost care and precision.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
