Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Clinical Chemist to join our diagnostic medical lab team in New Port Richey, FL. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of clinical chemistry testing, contributing directly to patient care and diagnostic insights. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of analytical, technical, and consultative duties, including method validation, quality control, troubleshooting, and interpretation of complex test results. This role offers a shift differential for evening or night shifts, recognizing the essential nature of continuous lab operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee a variety of complex clinical chemistry tests on biological specimens, ensuring accuracy and precision.
  • Develop, validate, and implement new analytical methods and instrumentation in accordance with regulatory standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate quality control data, troubleshoot out-of-control situations, and implement corrective actions.
  • Operate, maintain, and calibrate advanced laboratory equipment, ensuring optimal performance and compliance.
  • Interpret and report complex test results, providing technical consultation to laboratory staff and healthcare professionals.
  • Participate in proficiency testing programs and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations (CLIA, CAP, etc.).
  • Assist in the training and competency assessment of medical technologists and other laboratory personnel.
  • Conduct research and development projects to enhance diagnostic capabilities and improve laboratory efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all testing, quality control, and instrument maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with other laboratory sections and clinical staff to optimize patient care and laboratory services.

Required Skills

  • Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Clinical Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Certification by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-doctoral experience in a high-volume clinical chemistry laboratory.
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of clinical chemistry principles and methodologies.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting automated laboratory analyzers.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • In-depth understanding of regulatory requirements (CLIA, CAP, COLA) governing clinical laboratories.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Previous experience in method development and validation.
  • Demonstrated experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals related to clinical chemistry.
  • Leadership or supervisory experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
