Job Description

Join Tetra Tech as an EPA Compliance Specialist (Chemist) and play a critical role in ensuring our projects and clients adhere to stringent environmental regulations. This position demands a keen eye for detail, a strong background in chemistry, and a deep understanding of EPA guidelines. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and monitoring compliance programs, conducting site assessments, and providing expert guidance on regulatory requirements. This is a stable role with a focus on long-term project success and continuous improvement in environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret and apply EPA regulations, state, and local environmental laws (e.g., RCRA, CERCLA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act).
  • Develop and implement environmental compliance programs, policies, and procedures for various projects and client sites.
  • Conduct comprehensive environmental audits, inspections, and assessments to identify non-compliance and recommend corrective actions.
  • Prepare and submit necessary environmental permits, reports, and other documentation to regulatory agencies.
  • Provide expert chemical analysis support, including sampling oversight and data interpretation, to ensure compliance with hazardous waste and other chemical-related regulations.
  • Serve as a primary liaison with regulatory agencies (EPA, FDEP) during inspections and inquiries.
  • Train staff on environmental compliance procedures and best practices.
  • Stay current with evolving environmental regulations and industry best practices.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in EPA compliance, environmental management, or regulatory affairs.
  • In-depth knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations (e.g., RCRA, CWA, CAA, CERCLA).
  • Proven experience with environmental permitting and reporting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to interpret complex chemical data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., CHMM, CEP).
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Familiarity with Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) regulations.
  • Experience in a consulting environment or with diverse industrial clients.
