Job Description

H.B. Fuller is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Adhesives Chemist with a strong focus on product development to join our innovative R&D team in Fargo, North Dakota. This role is crucial for developing new adhesive formulations, optimizing existing products, and providing technical support to our manufacturing and sales teams. The successful candidate will drive projects from conception through commercialization, ensuring our products meet stringent performance and quality standards while adhering to regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, synthesize, and test new adhesive formulations based on market needs and customer specifications.
  • Optimize existing adhesive products for improved performance, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability.
  • Conduct thorough analytical testing and characterization of raw materials and finished products.
  • Manage multiple product development projects simultaneously, adhering to timelines and budget.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality control, sales, and marketing.
  • Provide technical support to customers and internal teams regarding product application and performance.
  • Document research findings, prepare technical reports, and present results to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards in all laboratory activities.

Required Skills

  • Strong background in polymer chemistry, materials science, or related fields.
  • Proven experience in adhesive formulation and product development.
  • Familiarity with various adhesive technologies (e.g., epoxy, polyurethane, acrylic, hot melt).
  • Proficiency in analytical techniques such as FTIR, DSC, DMA, GPC, and rheology.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with statistical experimental design (DOE).
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for adhesive products (e.g., FDA, REACH).
  • Prior experience in scale-up and commercialization of new chemical products.
