Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate UPS Chiropody Assistant with a specific focus on elderly care to join our team at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island, NE. In this vital role, you will work under the direct supervision of a licensed podiatrist or chiropodist, providing essential foot care support to our elderly patients. Your responsibilities will include assisting with routine foot assessments, hygiene procedures, nail care, and maintaining a comfortable and sterile environment. This position requires a strong empathetic approach, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our senior patients through specialized foot health services.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist licensed podiatrists/chiropodists with patient examinations and procedures.
- Perform routine foot care tasks such as nail trimming, filing, and callus reduction under supervision.
- Provide foot hygiene and basic wound care for elderly patients, ensuring comfort and safety.
- Prepare treatment rooms, sterilize instruments, and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Document patient information, care provided, and observations accurately in electronic health records.
- Educate patients and caregivers on proper foot care techniques and preventative measures.
- Monitor and report any changes in patient foot health to the supervising practitioner.
- Support patient mobility by assisting with transfers and positioning as needed.
- Adhere to all safety, infection control, and privacy regulations (HIPAA).
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program or equivalent healthcare assistant certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting, preferably with elderly patients.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills for electronic documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Specialized training or certification in foot care assistance or podiatric medical assisting.
- Experience working in a long-term care facility or home health setting.
- Familiarity with medical terminology related to podiatry and geriatrics.
- Demonstrated empathy and patience when working with elderly individuals.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
