Job Description

West Fraser Timber Co. Ltd. is actively seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Lumber Yard Forklift Operator for immediate hire at our West Kelowna facility. This full-time position involves operating a forklift in an outdoor lumber yard setting, ensuring the efficient and safe movement of lumber products, and supporting our production and distribution operations. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate a forklift safely and efficiently to load, unload, stack, and move lumber bundles and other wood products.
  • Perform daily pre-shift inspections of the forklift and maintain operational logs.
  • Ensure accurate inventory tracking and proper placement of materials within the yard.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as industry regulations.
  • Assist with general yard maintenance and organization as required.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other departments.
  • Identify and report any equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or discrepancies.
  • Work effectively in varying outdoor weather conditions.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience operating a forklift, preferably in a lumber yard or similar outdoor industrial environment.
  • Valid forklift operator certification or ability to obtain one promptly.
  • Strong understanding and commitment to workplace safety procedures.
  • Ability to work physically demanding tasks, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination and spatial awareness.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
  • Basic communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with lumber handling equipment.
  • Knowledge of lumber grading and product identification.
  • Experience with inventory management systems.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
