Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Food Chemist with a strong focus on Nutritional Analysis to join our R&D and Quality Assurance team in Simi Valley, CA. This immediate hire position requires expertise in analytical chemistry techniques, method development, and a deep understanding of regulatory compliance for food products. The successful candidate will perform comprehensive chemical analyses to determine the nutritional content and quality of various Dole products, contributing directly to product excellence and consumer trust.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive chemical analyses on various food products to determine nutritional content, including proximate analysis (moisture, ash, fat, protein, carbohydrates), vitamins, minerals, and other key components.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated analytical instruments such as HPLC, GC-MS, ICP-MS, spectrophotometers, and other laboratory equipment.
- Develop, optimize, and validate new analytical methods to enhance testing capabilities and efficiency, adhering to industry best practices and regulatory guidelines (e.g., AOAC, USP).
- Interpret analytical data accurately, generate detailed reports, and effectively communicate findings to cross-functional teams, including R&D, Quality Assurance, and Production.
- Ensure strict compliance with all applicable food safety regulations and standards from agencies such as FDA, USDA, and local health authorities.
- Maintain meticulous laboratory records, logs, and documentation in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and company protocols.
- Perform routine quality control checks, instrument troubleshooting, and participate in proficiency testing programs.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues to support product development, quality improvement initiatives, and resolve analytical challenges.
- Stay abreast of new scientific developments, analytical techniques, and regulatory changes in food chemistry and nutritional science.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a food chemistry laboratory, with a demonstrated focus on nutritional analysis.
- Proven proficiency in operating and troubleshooting a variety of analytical instrumentation, including but not limited to HPLC, GC, ICP, and UV-Vis spectrophotometry.
- Strong foundational understanding of food safety regulations and quality standards set by bodies like the FDA and USDA.
- Exceptional data analysis, interpretation, and technical report writing skills.
- Ability to work both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a fast-paced team environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Familiarity with method validation protocols and experience with third-party accreditation (e.g., ISO 17025).
- Knowledge of sensory evaluation techniques and their chemical basis.
