Job Description

DePaul University seeks an experienced and visionary Academic Department Head for International Sponsorship. This pivotal role involves leading the strategic development, management, and oversight of all international student sponsorship programs within a key academic department. The successful candidate will ensure robust support for our international student population, navigate complex immigration regulations, and foster a welcoming and inclusive environment. This position requires a leader who can effectively collaborate with various university stakeholders, drive program innovation, and contribute to the university’s global engagement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic planning, development, and implementation of international sponsorship programs.
  • Manage and mentor a team of professional staff dedicated to international student services and compliance.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all U.S. immigration regulations (F-1, J-1, etc.) and university policies related to international students.
  • Collaborate effectively with Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Advising, and other university departments to streamline international student processes.
  • Develop and execute outreach and engagement strategies to support international student recruitment and retention.
  • Represent the department and university at internal and external events, conferences, and international partnerships.
  • Oversee the departmental budget allocated for international programs and initiatives.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for sponsored international students and sponsoring organizations.
  • Facilitate cultural integration programs and support services for international students.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education, preferably in international education or student services.
  • Comprehensive expertise in U.S. immigration regulations pertaining to international students (F-1 and J-1 visas).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex programs and lead diverse teams.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, cross-cultural communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and budget management.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to interpret data for program improvement.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in an academic setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Education, International Relations, or Business Administration.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Education, International Relations, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Experience living, studying, or working abroad.
  • Proficiency in a second language.
  • Familiarity with student information systems (e.g., Campus Solutions) and CRM platforms.
  • Experience with international recruitment strategies and market analysis.
