Job Description
Join Kaiser Permanente’s dedicated team in Rialto, CA, as an Advanced Clinical Chemotherapy Pharmacy Technician. This pivotal role involves supporting our oncology services by accurately preparing and dispensing sterile and non-sterile compounded medications, specifically chemotherapeutic agents, under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist. You will be instrumental in ensuring patient safety, medication efficacy, and compliance with all regulatory standards in a fast-paced, advanced clinical environment. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to patient care within our renowned integrated healthcare system.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, compound, and dispense sterile and non-sterile chemotherapeutic and other hazardous medications accurately and safely, adhering to USP 797 and 800 guidelines.
- Assist pharmacists in managing medication inventory, including ordering, receiving, storing, and rotating chemotherapy drugs.
- Maintain accurate records of all compounding activities, medication dispensing, and inventory management.
- Operate and maintain specialized pharmacy equipment, including compounding isolators and biological safety cabinets.
- Collaborate with pharmacists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure timely and appropriate medication delivery.
- Monitor and document drug expiration dates and assist in managing drug recalls.
- Participate in quality assurance activities and maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work environment.
- Provide exceptional customer service and support to patients and healthcare providers.
Required Skills
- Current California Pharmacy Technician license (CPhT).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, with at least 1 year in chemotherapy compounding or an advanced clinical setting.
- Proven knowledge of USP 797 and USP 800 compounding regulations.
- Demonstrated proficiency in sterile compounding techniques.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer proficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
- PTCB certification (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board).
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical calculations.
- Experience with automated dispensing systems.
