Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic Rehabilitation Music Aide to join our Physical Therapy Support team. In this ongoing full-time role, you will assist our physical therapists and rehabilitation staff by integrating music-based activities into patient therapy plans. This role focuses on creating a supportive and engaging environment that aids in the physical, cognitive, and emotional recovery of patients. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping others, a foundational understanding of music’s therapeutic benefits, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team. This is a hands-on position requiring direct patient interaction and coordination with therapy professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with physical therapists to incorporate music-based activities into individual and group therapy sessions.
  • Prepare and maintain musical instruments, audio equipment, and activity materials for therapy use.
  • Facilitate musical activities such as rhythm exercises, sing-alongs, instrument play, and guided listening to support rehabilitation goals.
  • Monitor patient engagement and progress during music activities and report observations to the therapy team.
  • Assist patients with safe movement and positioning during therapy sessions, under the guidance of licensed therapists.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe therapy environment.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to patients throughout their rehabilitation journey.
  • Document basic patient participation and activity notes as required.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, safety protocols, and patient confidentiality guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of musical instruments and ability to lead simple musical activities
  • Empathy and patience when working with diverse patient populations
  • Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team
  • Physical ability to assist patients with movement and stand for extended periods
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or patient care setting
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Some college coursework in music, psychology, recreation therapy, or a related field
  • Familiarity with various musical genres and therapeutic applications of music
