Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Agrochemical Chemist to join our dynamic R&D team in Pasadena, CA. This role will primarily focus on the development and optimization of novel fertilizers and crop science solutions. The successful candidate will be instrumental in designing, synthesizing, and testing new chemical compounds and formulations aimed at enhancing plant nutrition, pest resistance, and overall crop yield. You will work in a state-of-the-art laboratory environment, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of biologists, agronomists, and engineers to bring innovative products from concept to field. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and synthesize novel agrochemical compounds with a focus on fertilizer efficiency and crop protection.
  • Develop and optimize chemical formulations for various agricultural applications, ensuring stability, efficacy, and environmental safety.
  • Conduct laboratory and greenhouse experiments to evaluate the biological activity and physicochemical properties of new compounds and formulations.
  • Perform analytical characterization of synthesized materials using techniques such as HPLC, GC-MS, NMR, and IR spectroscopy.
  • Interpret experimental data, prepare detailed reports, and present findings to internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with biology, toxicology, and regulatory teams to ensure product compliance and safety.
  • Maintain accurate records of experiments, analyses, and results in accordance with company policies and regulatory guidelines.
  • Stay abreast of scientific literature, emerging technologies, and industry trends in agrochemistry and crop science.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and quality standards.

Required Skills

  • Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Agricultural Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree with significant relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in synthetic organic chemistry, formulation chemistry, or agrochemical R&D (post-degree).
  • Strong understanding of reaction mechanisms, synthesis techniques, and purification methods.
  • Proficiency in analytical instrumentation (HPLC, GC-MS, NMR, FTIR).
  • Experience with chemical formulation development and stability testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute experiments, analyze data, and troubleshoot technical issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific information clearly.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a meticulous approach to experimental work.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with controlled release technologies or encapsulated formulations.
  • Knowledge of plant physiology, soil science, or microbiology relevant to agricultural applications.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for agrochemical products (e.g., EPA, FIFRA).
  • Proven track record of innovation, as evidenced by patents, publications, or product development contributions.
  • Experience in scale-up of chemical processes from lab to pilot plant.
