Job Description
Western Resource Advocates is seeking a highly motivated and passionate Policy Fellow to join our dedicated team in Boulder, CO. This is an exceptional opportunity for an emerging professional to contribute to high-impact environmental policy advocacy across the Western United States. The Policy Fellow will play a crucial role in supporting our expert teams in research, analysis, and outreach efforts aimed at protecting natural resources and promoting sustainable practices. This position offers a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in policy development, strategic planning, and engagement with diverse stakeholders, all while working to advance WRA’s critical mission. A sign-on bonus is available for new hires.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research and analysis on environmental policy issues relevant to water, energy, land, and climate change in the Western U.S.
- Draft policy briefs, memos, reports, and other written materials for internal and external audiences.
- Assist in the development and implementation of advocacy strategies to influence state and federal policy decisions.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments, identifying opportunities and threats to WRA's conservation goals.
- Support senior staff in preparing for meetings, presentations, and public engagements.
- Engage with coalition partners, community groups, and government agencies as needed.
- Collect and analyze data to support policy recommendations and impact assessments.
- Contribute to communications efforts by assisting with website content, social media, and press materials.
Required Skills
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated interest in environmental conservation, public policy, or related fields.
- Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, public policy, political science, law, or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Juris Doctor (JD) in a relevant field.
- Familiarity with environmental issues specific to the Western United States.
- Experience with data analysis software or geographic information systems (GIS).
- Prior internship or volunteer experience in policy advocacy, government, or non-profit sectors.
