Job Description
Are you ready to kickstart your career as a professional truck driver but lack the necessary experience or CDL? FedEx Freight is offering a comprehensive Paid Driver Development Program designed to train and equip aspiring drivers with the skills and certification needed to become a valued member of our driving team. This full-time, on-site program provides hands-on training, classroom instruction, and mentorship, culminating in the attainment of your CDL-A. You’ll learn safety protocols, vehicle operation, regulations, and customer service, all while earning a competitive wage.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in classroom learning and hands-on driving instruction.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and company policies during training and operation.
- Practice and develop skills in pre-trip/post-trip inspections, basic vehicle control, and on-road driving.
- Study and pass written and practical exams required to obtain a CDL-A license.
- Maintain a clean driving record and comply with all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
- Develop a strong understanding of freight handling procedures and customer service expectations.
- Collaborate effectively with instructors and fellow trainees.
Required Skills
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Valid state-issued driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record (MVR).
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) with endorsements (tanker, doubles/triples, hazardous materials) prior to starting the program.
- Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen.
- No prior CDL-A experience required, but a strong commitment to learning and safety is essential.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Previous experience in a role requiring strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
- Demonstrated reliability and a strong work ethic.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
