Job Description

Are you ready to kickstart a rewarding career in transportation but currently lack the necessary commercial driving experience? FedEx Freight’s Paid Driver Development Program is your direct pathway to becoming a professional CDL-A driver. This comprehensive trainee program is meticulously designed to provide you with all the essential knowledge and extensive hands-on training required to successfully obtain your Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A). You’ll receive paid instruction, encompassing both rigorous classroom learning and practical behind-the-wheel experience, preparing you for a successful and long-term career with one of the most respected names in the logistics industry. No prior CDL experience is required – we are actively seeking motivated individuals who are eager to learn and committed to upholding our stringent safety-first culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in all classroom instruction and hands-on driving training sessions.
  • Learn and strictly adhere to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate commercial motor vehicles safely under direct supervision, gradually increasing proficiency and confidence.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, reporting any deficiencies.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records as required by DOT guidelines and company policy.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to continuous learning and professional development throughout the program.
  • Work collaboratively with trainers and other trainees in a structured, supportive learning environment.

Required Skills

  • Possess a valid state-issued driver’s license.
  • Maintain a clean driving record for the past 3 years.
  • Ability to successfully pass a DOT physical examination and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and unwavering commitment to safety.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks associated with commercial driving, including lifting, bending, climbing, and prolonged sitting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience driving larger vehicles (non-CDL) or operating heavy equipment.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a positive attitude.
