Job Description

Extendicare Inc. in Banff, Alberta, is seeking a motivated and compassionate Gerontology & Aging Studies Intern to join our dedicated senior care team. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and implementation of age-appropriate programs and activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social well-being for residents.
- Engage directly with residents, fostering meaningful relationships and providing companionship and support.
- Conduct research on best practices in gerontology and senior care, contributing to evidence-based service delivery.
- Support the care team with various tasks, including data collection, documentation, and administrative duties related to resident care plans.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, offering insights and contributing to holistic care strategies.
- Observe and learn from experienced professionals in areas such as palliative care, dementia care, and rehabilitation.
- Contribute to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all residents and their families.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Gerontology, Social Work, Nursing, or related degree/diploma program.
- Demonstrated interest and passion for working with seniors.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
- Empathy, patience, and a compassionate approach to care.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer or paid experience in a senior care setting.
- Knowledge of common age-related conditions and challenges.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Bilingualism (English and French or other relevant languages).
