Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Lab Systems Specialist with a unique blend of IT and chemistry expertise to join our quality assurance team in Bakersfield, CA. This pivotal role involves the administration, configuration, and support of our Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and other critical lab applications. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between scientific users and IT infrastructure, ensuring our lab systems are robust, efficient, and compliant. Key Responsibilities
- Administer, configure, and maintain the LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) and other lab-specific software applications, including instrument interfaces.
- Collaborate with laboratory personnel to gather requirements, design workflows, and implement system enhancements to optimize lab processes.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting for LIMS users, resolving issues related to data entry, sample management, results reporting, and instrument integration.
- Develop and maintain system documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), user manuals, and training materials.
- Conduct user training sessions to ensure effective utilization of lab systems and adherence to best practices.
- Assist in data migration, system upgrades, validation activities, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, USDA, ISO).
- Perform routine system health checks, backups, and security monitoring.
- Work closely with the IT department on infrastructure, network, and security aspects related to lab systems.
- Participate in cross-functional projects aimed at improving lab efficiency, data quality, and overall operational excellence.
- Analyze data and generate reports to support quality control, R&D, and regulatory compliance efforts.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related scientific or technical field.
- 3+ years of experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) in an administration or support role.
- Strong understanding of laboratory workflows, data management, and quality control principles.
- Proficiency in SQL for data querying and reporting.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to translate scientific user requirements into technical specifications.
- Experience with system validation and regulatory compliance in a lab setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with specific LIMS platforms (e.g., Thermo Fisher SampleManager, LabWare LIMS, STARLIMS).
- Familiarity with agricultural, food safety, or environmental testing laboratories.
- Experience with other lab systems such as ELN (Electronic Lab Notebook) or CDS (Chromatography Data System).
- Knowledge of programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, C#) for system integration or custom development.
- Project management experience in an IT or lab environment.
