Job Description

Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in all required training programs for fire apparatus operation and emergency response.
- Learn and adhere to all department policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Assist in the inspection, maintenance, and basic servicing of fire trucks and equipment.
- Observe and learn proper techniques for driving fire apparatus under emergency and non-emergency conditions.
- Develop proficiency in navigating various routes and road conditions within the Topeka service area.
- Support senior firefighters and drivers during emergency calls, including scene setup and equipment deployment.
- Maintain a high level of physical fitness and readiness.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and skill enhancement.
Required Skills
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong commitment to public service and safety.
- Ability to learn and adapt quickly in high-pressure situations.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check, physical examination, and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a related field (e.g., EMS, military, heavy equipment operation).
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
- Reside within a reasonable proximity to Topeka, KS.
