Job Description

Are you a passionate and patient guitar player with a knack for teaching? Aloha Rhythms Music School is seeking a dedicated Part-Time Guitar Instructor to guide beginner students on their musical journey. This role is perfect for someone who loves sharing their knowledge of guitar, from basic chords and strumming patterns to fundamental music theory. You will be responsible for creating engaging lesson plans, inspiring confidence in our students, and cultivating a fun and encouraging learning atmosphere. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging guitar lessons for beginner students, individually and in small groups.
  • Teach fundamental guitar techniques including posture, hand position, tuning, basic chords, scales, and strumming patterns.
  • Introduce foundational music theory concepts relevant to beginner guitarists.
  • Assess student progress, provide constructive feedback, and adapt teaching methods to individual learning styles.
  • Maintain a positive, encouraging, and patient learning environment.
  • Communicate regularly with students and their parents/guardians regarding progress and upcoming events.
  • Prepare students for optional performance opportunities such as recitals or informal jam sessions.
  • Maintain a tidy and organized teaching space.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in acoustic and electric guitar.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental music theory and guitar techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially with children and adults.
  • Patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for teaching.
  • Ability to create and follow structured lesson plans.
  • Reliable and punctual.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Music Performance, Music Education, or a related field.
  • Previous experience teaching guitar to beginner students.
  • Experience with diverse teaching methodologies.
  • Ability to teach other instruments (e.g., ukulele) is a plus.
  • Local knowledge of the Kailua-Kona community.
