Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic City Arborist Assistant / Tree Surgeon Trainee to join our team in Corner Brook, NL. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals passionate about trees, nature, and outdoor work. You will work closely with certified arborists and experienced crew members, learning essential tree care techniques, safety protocols, and the use of specialized equipment. This is a hands-on role where you will receive comprehensive on-the-job training and mentorship, paving the way for a rewarding career in professional arboriculture. The position is on-site, providing direct experience with urban forestry challenges and solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist certified arborists and crew members with various tree care operations, including pruning, removal, planting, and disease management.
- Learn and apply proper tree climbing techniques, rigging, and aerial lift operations under direct supervision.
- Operate and maintain a variety of tools and equipment, such as chainsaws, chippers, and stump grinders, ensuring all safety guidelines are strictly followed.
- Perform ground support tasks, including hauling brush, raking, and maintaining a clean and safe work area.
- Participate in daily safety briefings and contribute to a safety-conscious work environment.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and industry best practices.
- Attend training sessions and demonstrate a continuous willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Interact professionally with clients and the public as a representative of Davey Tree Expert Company.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic and a desire to learn new skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to all safety protocols.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (or ability to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in outdoor labor, landscaping, or forestry.
- Basic knowledge of tree species and plant identification.
- Chainsaw operation experience.
- First Aid/CPR certification.
