Job Description

Are you a budding data enthusiast eager to dive into the world of data science? Shopify is seeking a motivated Data Science Intern to join our remote team. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with real-world datasets, contribute to impactful projects, and receive dedicated mentorship from experienced data scientists. You’ll work on challenging problems, apply your Python and SQL skills, and learn the practical applications of machine learning in a fast-paced e-commerce environment. This is a 100% remote position, offering flexibility and the chance to collaborate with a global team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in collecting, cleaning, and preprocessing large datasets using Python and SQL.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights.
  • Support the development and implementation of machine learning models for various business problems.
  • Collaborate with senior data scientists and engineers to integrate models into production systems.
  • Document findings, methodologies, and results in a clear and concise manner.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions.
  • Learn and apply best practices in data science and software development.
  • Contribute to data quality initiatives and improve data integrity.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in Python (e.g., Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn).
  • Strong SQL skills for data extraction and manipulation.
  • Foundational understanding of statistical concepts and machine learning principles.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking.
  • Enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's program in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
  • Familiarity with version control systems, especially Git.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib, Seaborn).
  • Previous project experience (academic or personal) involving data analysis or machine learning.
  • Understanding of A/B testing and experimental design.
