Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and physically capable Orthopedic Unit Porter to join our dedicated team at Royal United Hospitals Bath. This is a crucial role supporting the smooth operation of our Orthopedic Unit, ensuring patients, equipment, and vital supplies are moved efficiently and safely. You will be an integral part of our healthcare team, directly contributing to patient well-being and the efficient functioning of the unit. Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients, including those with orthopedic conditions, between wards, departments, and therapy areas using wheelchairs, trolleys, and beds.
  • Assist with the movement of medical equipment, supplies, specimens, and patient notes throughout the orthopedic unit and wider hospital.
  • Provide empathetic support and clear communication to patients during transport, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of transport equipment and areas, adhering to strict infection control protocols.
  • Respond promptly to requests from medical and nursing staff, prioritizing tasks effectively to meet urgent needs.
  • Handle confidential patient information with discretion and in accordance with data protection guidelines.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and trust policies, particularly regarding manual handling and patient safety.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure seamless patient flow and operational efficiency.

  • Excellent physical fitness and stamina for prolonged periods of walking, pushing, and lifting.
