Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Technical Writer to join our dynamic Documentation & Support team at Google. In this remote role, you will be instrumental in creating clear, concise, and comprehensive technical documentation for our complex products and services. You will work closely with engineers, product managers, and support teams to ensure that our users, developers, and internal stakeholders have access to accurate and easy-to-understand information. This is a critical role that helps bridge the gap between complex technology and user comprehension, directly impacting user satisfaction and product adoption.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high-quality technical documentation, including user guides, API references, tutorials, release notes, and FAQs.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to understand product features, specifications, and underlying technology.
  • Work with product managers to define documentation requirements and ensure alignment with product roadmaps.
  • Interview subject matter experts and conduct independent research to gather information for documentation.
  • Review and edit content from other writers for clarity, accuracy, consistency, and adherence to style guides.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of documentation style guides and best practices.
  • Manage documentation projects from inception to publication, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, user-friendly language for diverse audiences.
  • Monitor user feedback and analytics to continuously improve documentation quality and usability.
  • Participate in cross-functional team meetings and discussions to represent the documentation perspective.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of experience as a technical writer in a software or technology company.
  • Proven ability to write clear, concise, and accurate technical documentation for various audiences.
  • Strong understanding of complex technical concepts and the ability to translate them effectively.
  • Proficiency with documentation tools (e.g., Markdown, DITA, XML, HTML, Confluence, Git).
  • Excellent command of English language, grammar, and style.
  • Experience with API documentation and developer guides.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Computer Science, English, or a related field.
  • Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure).
  • Familiarity with programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, JavaScript) to understand code examples.
  • Experience with user interface text and microcopy.
  • Portfolio showcasing a range of technical documentation samples.
