Job Description
We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Principal Environmental Scientist with a strong consulting background to join our Environmental team in Melbourne. This pivotal role involves leading complex environmental projects, providing expert advice to clients across various sectors, and mentoring junior team members. The successful candidate will drive project delivery, ensure technical excellence, and contribute significantly to business development initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage complex environmental impact assessments, due diligence, and site remediation projects from inception to completion.
- Provide expert environmental advice and strategic guidance to clients in both public and private sectors.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, identifying new business opportunities and contributing to proposal development.
- Mentor and supervise junior environmental staff, fostering their professional growth and technical capabilities.
- Ensure compliance with relevant environmental legislation, regulations, and industry best practices.
- Conduct comprehensive technical reviews of project deliverables, ensuring accuracy and high quality.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources effectively to achieve successful outcomes.
- Present findings and recommendations to clients, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner.
- Contribute to thought leadership and continuous improvement initiatives within the environmental practice.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams across GHD to deliver integrated solutions.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in environmental consulting or a related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in environmental impact assessment (EIA), environmental management plans (EMP), and site investigations.
- Strong understanding of Australian environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks (e.g., EPBC Act, state-specific acts).
- Proven project management skills, including budget and timeline management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of successful client engagement.
- Ability to lead and motivate project teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Proficiency in GIS software and data analysis tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in a relevant environmental discipline.
- Professional certification (e.g., CEnvP, RPEQ).
- Experience in contaminated land assessment and remediation.
- A track record of successful business development and client acquisition.
- Specialized knowledge in areas such as biodiversity, hydrogeology, or waste management.
