Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Packaging Machinery Technician to join our manufacturing facility in Rochester, NY. This critical role involves the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a diverse range of packaging equipment to ensure optimal operational efficiency and product quality. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical and electrical systems, PLC diagnostics, and a commitment to safety and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on all packaging machinery, including fillers, sealers, labelers, conveyors, and palletizers.
- Diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues using schematics, manuals, and diagnostic tools.
- Execute timely repairs and adjustments to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.
- Collaborate with production teams to optimize machine performance and implement efficiency improvements.
- Document all maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage accurately.
- Adhere to all safety protocols, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and quality standards.
- Provide technical support and training to junior technicians and production operators as needed.
- Participate in equipment installation, commissioning, and upgrades.
- Identify and recommend improvements to existing machinery and maintenance procedures.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of experience as a maintenance technician in a manufacturing environment, preferably in food or beverage packaging.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with power transmission, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
- Proficient in electrical troubleshooting, including reading schematics and working with control circuits (up to 480V).
- Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) – Allen-Bradley preferred.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments and hand/power tools.
- Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and GMP.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or technical certification in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- Experience with specific packaging machinery brands (e.g., Krones, KHS, Bosch, Tetra Pak).
- Prior experience in a high-speed production environment.
- Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
