Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Associate Chemist I to join our team in Fairbanks, AK, as part of our New Graduate Program. This entry-level position is designed for recent graduates who are eager to launch their careers in analytical chemistry. You will work alongside experienced chemists, gaining hands-on experience with state-of-the-art instrumentation and a diverse range of testing methodologies. This program includes dedicated mentorship to support your professional development and ensure a strong foundation in laboratory operations, quality systems, and scientific principles. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex chemical analyses on various sample matrices (e.g., water, soil, air) using established procedures and instrumentation.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment such as GC-MS, HPLC, ICP-MS, and other spectroscopic instruments.
  • Accurately record, interpret, and report analytical data, ensuring data integrity and adherence to quality control guidelines.
  • Prepare samples, reagents, and standards according to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Participate in method development and validation studies under the guidance of senior chemists.
  • Adhere to strict safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and contribute to a positive and productive laboratory culture.
  • Engage actively in mentorship sessions and continuous learning opportunities.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related scientific field.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of general chemistry principles and analytical techniques.
  • Demonstrated practical experience with laboratory equipment gained through coursework or research.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship or research experience in an analytical laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
  • Experience with specific analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC-MS, HPLC, ICP-MS).
  • Understanding of quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) principles.
