Job Description

GHD is seeking a passionate and skilled Wildlife Biologist / Ecologist to join our dynamic environmental team in Brisbane. This full-time, on-site position offers international sponsorship for eligible candidates, providing a unique opportunity to advance your career in Australia. You will be instrumental in conducting ecological surveys, impact assessments, and developing mitigation strategies for a diverse range of projects. The role requires a strong understanding of Australian wildlife and ecosystems, although candidates with exceptional international experience and a willingness to adapt will be considered. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field-based ecological surveys, including flora and fauna identification, habitat assessments, and biodiversity monitoring.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports, environmental impact assessments (EIAs), and management plans in accordance with local and national regulations.
  • Utilize GIS and other spatial analysis tools for data collection, analysis, and mapping.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams, clients, and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide expert advice on ecological constraints, legislative requirements, and mitigation strategies.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including proposal writing and client relationship management.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Ecology, Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in ecological consulting or research.
  • Proven experience in conducting field surveys, data collection, and analysis.
  • Strong report writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., MS Office Suite, GIS applications).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ecological principles and environmental legislation.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-graduate qualifications (e.g., PhD) in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience with Australian flora and fauna identification and ecological assessment frameworks.
  • Specialized expertise in specific ecological areas (e.g., threatened species, aquatic ecology, biodiversity offsetting).
  • Project management experience.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to remote field sites.
