Job Description

Are you passionate about film and television, with a keen eye for visual storytelling? Do you dream of a career behind the camera but lack the formal experience? STV Group plc is offering an incredible opportunity for an enthusiastic Camera Operator Trainee to join our vibrant production team in Leith, Edinburgh. This entry-level position is designed to provide comprehensive on-the-job training in all aspects of camera operation for various media productions, from studio shoots to outside broadcasts and digital content. You will work alongside experienced professionals, learning the technical and creative skills required to become a skilled camera operator. This is a hands-on learning experience where your curiosity and dedication will be your greatest assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior camera operators during live broadcasts and recorded productions.
  • Learn and practice setting up, operating, and maintaining various camera equipment (e.g., ENG, studio cameras, DSLRs).
  • Understand camera angles, shot composition, and movement to effectively tell a story.
  • Support lighting and sound departments as needed to ensure high-quality production.
  • Participate in pre-production meetings and post-production reviews.
  • Ensure all equipment is handled with care and stored properly.
  • Adhere to health and safety guidelines on set.
  • Continuously seek to learn and improve technical and creative skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Any personal projects involving video creation or photography.
  • Experience with volunteer work or internships in a media-related field.
  • Enrolment in or completion of a relevant college course (e.g., media studies, film production) is a plus but not essential.
  • Familiarity with various camera brands or editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro) is a bonus.
