Job Description
Join our dedicated team at Cats Protection as an Entry-Level Cattery Assistant for part-time evening shifts. This is a fantastic opportunity for compassionate individuals with a genuine love for cats to contribute to their welfare. You will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and stimulating environment for our cats, ensuring their comfort and well-being during the evening hours. No prior experience is necessary, as full training will be provided, but a reliable, responsible, and caring attitude is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform thorough cleaning and disinfection of cat pens, litter trays, and feeding areas to maintain high hygiene standards.
- Provide fresh food and water according to established feeding schedules and dietary requirements.
- Monitor the health and behaviour of cats, reporting any concerns or changes to senior staff.
- Administer medication as directed by veterinary staff or senior cattery assistants, after appropriate training.
- Engage in gentle handling and socialisation with cats, providing comfort and enrichment.
- Assist with laundry and other general cattery duties as required.
- Maintain accurate records of feeding, cleaning, and any observations.
- Ensure the security of the cattery premises during evening shifts.
Required Skills
- Genuine passion for animal welfare and a deep love for cats.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a small team during evening hours.
- Reliable, punctual, and responsible work ethic.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Capable of performing physical tasks, including bending, lifting, and prolonged standing.
- Excellent communication skills to report observations and interact with staff.
- Willingness to learn and adhere to health and safety procedures.
- Flexibility to work evening shifts, including weekends and public holidays as per rota.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience (volunteer or paid) working with animals, particularly cats.
- Basic knowledge of cat behaviour and welfare.
- First aid training (animal or human).
