Job Description

CN is seeking a skilled and dedicated Fleet Maintenance Engineer to join our dynamic team in Montreal, Quebec. This role is crucial for ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of our extensive fleet of vehicles and equipment beyond the rail network, including trucks, cranes, and other specialized operational machinery. The successful candidate will apply engineering principles to diagnose complex issues, develop preventative maintenance programs, and implement innovative solutions to optimize fleet performance. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize preventative maintenance programs for a diverse fleet of non-rail vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring mechanical and electrical failures, recommending and implementing corrective actions.
  • Evaluate new technologies and maintenance practices to improve fleet efficiency, safety, and environmental performance.
  • Develop and maintain technical specifications, maintenance manuals, and standard operating procedures.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams, operations personnel, and external vendors to ensure timely and effective repairs.
  • Monitor fleet performance metrics, identify trends, and provide data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Provide technical training and mentorship to maintenance staff.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in fleet maintenance, heavy equipment maintenance, or a similar engineering role.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems in heavy vehicles/equipment.
  • Proficiency in diagnostic tools and software for fleet management.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada (for international applicants, CN will support with immigration processes).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility for registration in Quebec.
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) software.
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Fluency in French (oral and written).
  • Experience in a large-scale industrial or transportation environment.
